Abacus APC ABACUS APC-powered speakers - Revision 2011

The ABACUS APC-regulated (Phase Controlled Amplifier) Active speaker design characteristics of the speakers and crossovers. The bass goes as deep as you, regardless of the size of the speaker systems and housing size.

The ABACUS powered speakers in technology allow an idealization of the transmission properties. Linearly from 16 Hz will be coordinated. And you go up to 24 kilohertz. Everything that humans can hear, is reproduced here linear and linear phase. For the first time.

How does ABACUS APC Self-Powered Loudspeakers work?

The ABACUS APC (Amplifier Phase Controlled) active loudspeaker technology controls both the loudspeaker and the crossover network while offering extremely low bass sound independent of the enclosure size.

The basis of the APC series is the ABACUS Class A/B transconductance amplifier. By comparing the induced voltage from the mutual inductance of the voice coil, any movements of the membrane is detected and compared to the original signal. This allows full control over the loudspeaker.

The crossover network is essential to the overall performance of loudspeakers.

A crossover network typically causes a frequency-dependent change of the phase of any input signal. In short: not all tones are reproduced at the same time. Such a change in phase appears in active as well as in passive crossover networks.

ABACUS overcomes these phase shifts. The currents induced by any single unit in the loudspeaker system are compared with the input signal, comprising all phase changes occurring in the crossover network as well as in the loudspeaker units. Any difference between input signal and return signal is then used to eliminate said phase changes. This allows an arbitrary number of transducers to act as a broadband speaker.

Typically large orchestras and large concert hall experiences are associated with sound containing very low frequencies. With common loudspeaker technology, large speaker enclosures are necessary in order to reproduce the necessary ˇ§low endˇ¨. However, large loudspeaker systems often color the sound. In contrast, small woofers in small enclosures produce a more natural sound experience without coloring the sound.

The ABACUS technology allows self-powered loudspeakers to provide an ideal sound reproduction: linearly (in amplitude and phase) from 16 Hz and up to 24 kHz, covering a larger range than the human ear can hear.

ABACUS APC self-powered loudspeakers can be connected to any type of source: preamplifiers, CD-players, sound cards, keyboards etc.

Due to its linearity the APC self-powered series is able to reproduce a three-dimensional spatiality and a large dynamic range together with a very low bass. The in-depth sound picture leads the speech intelligibility into higher dimensions. And: due to its small size APC loudspeakers fit in almost any place.

ABACUS APC-Series: This stands for high quality sound experience at a reasonable price.
