I was asked to set up W4S DAC2 and compared with the existing DAC, Monarchy NM24 tube DAC. We only spend 2 minute comparing. We know that we don't need to spend any more time with the Monarchy DAC. Well, we know that W4S DAC2 is better, just check it out to be sure.

In fact, for this home visit, we were most interested in the Apogee Big Ben Master Clock. The PC connection is:
PC -> Firewire cable -> Focusrite Saffire firewire to SPDIF converter -> coaxial digital cable -> Apogee Big Ben -> balanced digital cable -> W4S DAC2.

TOD2X - The Extreme Version

TOD2 is receiving very possible feedback from customer and independent review. After its first launch in late 2008, we are still the only audiophile product which effectively clean-up USB signal to get the best sound quality out of your DAC.

... As with the VertexAQ USB lead, the background was slightly 'blacker', and macro detail easier to differentiate. The sound was less digital, and generally more natural sounding. In essence, the TOD2 does what it claims to do...

I have run a HiFi showroom before. It was partly business, partly personal entertainment. I'm so glad to visit an audiophile who built their office, studio and hifi room in commercial/industrial building. It is so nicely set-up.

They are using 3 phase power, with one independent power set-up just for hifi use.Huge JBL speakers are carefully positioned without worrying about permission by "boss".

More importantly, host has set up a professional firewire recording interface (use as DAC) and Lavry DA11 which I would like to gain some experience regarding their performance.

It started with a question - "Add a pre-amp after the DAC1 Pre?". My suggestion is to first make sure that we have optimized the digital source before trying to fix it downstream. Well, a preamp and tune sound but cannot fix the problem with your source. So we organized home visit. Customer is using CAS using a very heavily tweaked quiet deskside PC. I'd like to take this opportunity to compare the quiet vs netbook as source. I think our finding will be useful for other computer audiophiles and DAC1 users. See the following links.

DAC, as music source, better be isolated from any noise and interference, especially PC noise.

"I do own the Meridian G08 and a Naim CD5X with external power supply, and I use an integrate amp Bladelius Thor to drive a pair of Proac D28. I am quite happy with the system as I do prefer the "British sound" which tend to be very smooth & natural and does not cause any fatique. I listen to vocal, jazz and classical music so my system has to be all round. However I do want to upgrade my system as I do feel the higher frequencies are a bit rolled off. Will the DAC1 do the job if I use my Meridian as a transport? Are you prepared to set up home trials?"

He really want to use AppleTV to play music with audiophile quality. It is so convenient to rip CDs using Apple notebook and remote control AppleTV with iPod.
